The fifth season of YouTube’s Gunsmoke series is here, and if you love this series, you are going to love this movie. It’s the same kind of dark humor we’ve come to expect from YouTube’s Gunsmoke movies, but it’s also got a modern flavor to it that makes it a fun watch. If you like movies with guns, then you will love this one.
As has been said before, YouTube has a great reputation for producing entertaining and funny videos, and this one is no different. The concept for this movie came about when the director, Joe Lynch, was asked by Netflix to create a video based on the Gunsmoke book. He got the go-ahead from Netflix, and he put together an amazing cast and crew that make the entire movie one that could only be dreamed up by a director as talented as Joe Lynch. The cast includes Michael Keaton, Whoopi Goldberg, and Ed Begley Jr. With some hilarious special effects and well-placed humor, this movie is a must-watch for all ages.
The story line is that there are four lovers who live in a rural town, the year is 1892. The four are warring over a woman (played by Begley), and they decide to have a “shocking” party to celebrate her passing. Things get out of hand, and things get personal, as one of the men brutally murders his girlfriend. This turns out to be the catalyst for the rest of the movie, as the men struggle to overcome their grudge and finally find peace.
The first two Gunsmoke films were well made, and many viewers loved them. However, they were not nearly as successful as the third installment. It’s a shame that this particular film didn’t work out like the others. This is one of those rare cases where you would think that the lead character would be completely apart from himself in the final version, but he isn’t. Instead, his personality comes across rather abruptly.
I always thought that Lukewarm was among the best Gunsmoke movies. So when the third installment came out, I was very excited. Well, I wasn’t. I thought it was going to be just another average gunsmoke movie. I was very wrong.
The new direction doesn’t hold true for all of the characters that appear in the film though. In fact, there are only two or three that I care about. These characters include Jake Towey (Philip Seymour Hoffman) and Max Goldman (ability owner). Both actors do an exceptional job, and the supporting cast just adds to the overall excitement. Though it may not be as good as the last time we saw these guys, it still holds its own.
There are quite a few different settings to the gunsmoke movies that have appeared over the last five years or so. The most recent, “clipsed” introductions to Gunsmoke introduce the story to a new set of characters. For example, the first scene of the film introduces Jake Towey, who happens to be the son of the rich uncle who was killed at the end of the first gunsmoke installment. So far, the only character that we’ve seen in person is Marlin Monroe (Robert Downey Jr.). He appears to be working with a company owned by his brother, Mickey (Jared Rushton).
This is just the first episode of the new YouTube gunsmoke series. There are only eleven left, so get on the wagon now. The first episode in the series focused on Jake Towey, while the second featured a little bit of background information on the gunsmoke world. The third saw the introduction of a new character, while the final installment will air next year.
